Toxins & Skin

September 16th, 2009

We all know that our world is filled with toxic chemicals in the air and earth around us. But do you really think about how this is affecting your health? Do you think about how much impact this has on your skin?

Last night on the news they showed the valley I live in from the vantage point of a helicopter. I was amazed and a little disgusted out to see all the pollution and yuck in the air. I know the air gets that way with the inversion in winter time, but I never realized how bad it can get in the summer too. With very little action in the weather, all those pollutants just keep building up in the air to create unhealthy air for breathing. Those pollutants are also just terrible for our skin and hair. Those pollutants from cars and business can start to build up on our skin, and can be very harmful to our bodies especially our lungs, even worse for those people with weaker immune systems.

That is why I try to remember to wash my face every night before bed. I am out there in the world every day, and I feel so gross if I don’t wash the yuck off myself before I climb into bed. I feel so much better when I climb into bed all scrubbed clean, not to mention the fact that washing my face and hydrating before bed has helped to limit the effects of those toxins around me on my skin.
